Sermon Discussion Questions
Series: Acting in God’s Drama: What’s my Role in the Story?
1 Peter 2:1-10, “An Introduction to Being God’s Actors”

1. Start off by sharing about your summertime. Perhaps focus on a high and a low, and/or discuss, “How have you seen God at work in or around you this summer?”

2. Talk about your personal experience with acting or drama, if any. What do you like about watching live theatre or seeing good actors at work on the screen?

3. What do you think of the argument that the Bible tells God’s Drama and that we are Actors in that Drama? How is it helpful (or not!) for how we look at the Bible, and for how we think of our identity and purpose?

4. Read 1 Peter 2:1-10. Pick one or more of the words/phrases Peter uses to tell the early church who they are. Use a commentary or Google to connect this identifier to a passage in the Old Testament. Discuss why it might have been meaningful for the recipients of Peter’s letter to identify this way. How is it meaningful for you to be identified in this way?

5. Consider rereading together the Prologue of Our World Belongs to God, paragraphs 1-6 – find it online at https://www.crcna.org/welcome/beliefs.

6. Before concluding with prayer for one another, discuss how you want your group to function this fall. Consider whether you might reach out to a new individual, couple, or family to join your group. (Contact Michelle Speal for suggestions.)
