Series: Acting in God’s Drama: What’s my Role in the Story?
2 Corinthians 5:17-21, “Act 5: God Sends the Church”
- Opening: If you were to go to a new country you’ve never visited before, which one would it be, and why? Would your answer change depending on whether your purpose is vacation or mission?
- Do you have a favourite Epistle in the New Testament? Why is it your favourite? Or, if you don’t have a favourite, pick one: read a short introduction to the Epistle (many Bibles include an introduction to each book) and skim through the subheadings of the letter; consider what insights this Epistle reveals about the early church. How do these insights encourage or challenge us as a church in 2024?
- This fifth Act introduces us to the Holy Spirit. What’s distinct about the Holy Spirit compared to God the Father and Jesus Christ? How are the Three Persons of the Trinity similar? What do you personally think and feel about the Holy Spirit?
- The Church’s identity and roles are described in many ways in the New Testament: new creation, body of Christ, bride of Christ, witnesses, ambassadors, messengers / ministers of reconciliation (and more). Which of these resonates most with you, and why?
- (Continue the conversation from our worship service:) Think about your Service Worship site, another volunteer experience, your home, your neighbourhood, or your workplace. How have you seen God’s work of restoration / reconciliation / redemption underway? How has the Spirit empowered and compelled you to participate in this work?
- The section inOur World Belongs to Godthat corresponds to Act 5 is quite long. Skim through paragraphs 28-54, and point out lines or paragraphs that especially grab you. Find OWBTG online at https://www.crcna.org/welcome/beliefs.
