Sermon Questions 2025-06-08
Series: Thirsty for the Spirit
Text: Acts 2:1-21
Title: Pentecost Gift: Holy Spirit
1. Opening: What’s the most amazing gift you’ve ever received? Why was it amazing?
2. Scan through Acts 2 to list the events that happen on Pentecost and in the days immediately following. Based on what you know of Peter from the gospel accounts, talk about what it would have been like to be Peter on Pentecost. What would it have been like to be a Jew visiting from another part of the Roman Empire?
3. Tyler Staton says in the June 8 Lectio 365 App midday devotional, “God is generous—the giver of so many gifts, but none greater than the gift of the Holy Spirit that Jesus promised in resurrection and was received at Pentecost.” Read also Jesus’ words in John 16:7. Discuss why the gift of the Holy Spirit is so important, using today’s sermon or your own insights about the Spirit.
4. The disciples were “filled with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:4). Have you met someone who seems particularly filled with the Spirit? Why do you describe them that way?
5. On Pentecost God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord poured out on the Church an amazing gift. How are you receiving this gift? (Consider options of learning more, praying, asking community for help.)
6. As we’ve been asking each week of this series: what is one way you might cultivate a thirst for the Holy Spirit this week?
