Sermon Questions 2025-09-07
Series: Apprenticeship to Jesus
Text: John 6:60-71
Title: Being with Jesus
1. Opening: Welcome back to sermon questions! What was one highlight of your summer? What was a challenge or “low” in your summer?
2. What do you know about apprenticeship (co-ops, internships, etc)? How can the idea of being Jesus’ apprentice enrich our understanding of being a Christian?
3. The first priority of an apprentice is to spend a lot of time with the master. What might the disciples have noticed about Jesus by being with him for long periods of time?
4. Our passage from John indicates there are costs and benefits from being Jesus’ disciple / apprentice. Present-day Christians could say the same. Make a list of reasons one might abandon apprenticeship to Jesus, and a list of reasons to recommit to his apprenticeship program.
5. Apprentices to Jesus can’t be with Jesus in quite the same way in 2025 as the original Twelve could in the first century. What are ways to “be with Jesus” in our modern lives?
6. When you consider prioritizing being with Jesus, what is most difficult for you personally? What can you (re)commit to this fall in order to be with Jesus more consistently / more deeply? Share these responses with your small group or at least one person, in order to benefit from their encouragement and accountability in the coming weeks.
