Sermon Questions for Reflection and/or Discussion, February 18, 2024
Series: Good Question!
Mark 8:27-9:1, “But You, Who Do You Say I Am?”

1. Opening: Where is the farthest from home you’ve travelled? How did being away from home shape you?

2. What does it mean for Jesus to be the Messiah? How is this definition similar to and different from the various ways that Jesus has been perceived in history, in today’s culture, and in the church?

3. How would *you* answer Jesus’ question, “Who do you say I am?” How (if at all) has your response changed over your lifetime, and why?

4. Read Mark 8:34-37 in the Message. What’s Jesus’ promise for those who follow him in the way of self-sacrifice? How have you seen this promise fulfilled in your own life or in someone else’s?

5. How can you embrace Jesus as your Messiah this Lent? For example, what might you release in a gesture of repentance or self-sacrifice? What might you grab onto as a follower of Jesus’ Way?
