Sermon Questions for Reflection and/or Discussion, January 28, 2024
Series: Good Question!
Mark 4:35-41, “Don’t You Care If We Drown?” (Does it not concern you that we are perishing?)

1. Opening: Share about a memorable experience in a boat, whether kayak or cruise ship or something in-between.

2. Read Mark 4:35-41. Talk about the disciples’ question in v.38. Why are they upset? Then talk about Jesus’ questions in v.40. Why is he upset?

3. Read Psalm 13:1-4 and Psalm 46:1-3 in a few translations. Compare and contrast these responses to the storms of life. Can you point to other passages like these? How might both be valuable?

4. Is there a time in your life when you’ve asked God, “Don’t you care…?” Or when God seems hidden? If you’re willing, share the story. Whether or not you share the details, talk about how things turned out. For example, how did God answer you? What conclusions did you make about God? What new insights did you gain about life or faith or God?

5. How can the community of faith help when one of us is experiencing the hiddenness of God or is wondering if God cares?

6. Optional: I haven’t decided upon which gospel questions we’ll explore during the season of Lent. Send me your suggestions! ~ Cara
