Sermon Questions for Reflection and/or Discussion, September 15, 2024
-Friendship with Jesus
Scripture: Luke 10:38-42, John 11:17-37, John 12:1-8, John 15:15

1. We are witness in these Gospel texts to a lifting up of the status of women modelled by Jesus’ treatment of Martha and Mary. What change in understanding of the traditional role of women in the New Testament is taking place under Jesus’ guidance?

2. Recall some of the significant friendships we read about in the Bible. How many can you name? What are the characteristics you observe in these friendships?

3. How is it possible (as modelled by Jesus) to have deep, meaningful friendships with people of the opposite sex?

4. What do you think Martha felt as she was challenging Jesus on his delayed arrival? Did her friend not care?

5. What does it mean to be not only a disciple but friend of Jesus and what does this friendship with Jesus allow you to understand about your relationship with him

6. What are some of the elements of a true, caring friendship that may draw the best out of you? Hint: “fruit of the Spirit”..

7. Why are personal friendships within the Faith Church community so vital?
