Sermon Questions – February 8, 2026
Series: Old Stories, New Stories
Text: Luke 8:40-42,49-56
Title: Jesus Brings Resurrection!
Invited: Imagine you’ve just been resurrected from death (I know, a big imagining!). What is the first thing you’d want to eat or drink?
Loved: Talk about Jairus, his wife, and his daughter before Jesus enters their home. What might they be feeling or thinking? Have you ever felt this way? Who is it easier for you to identify with, and why?
Shaped:
- Today Pastor Kevin used James Choung’s “True Story” 4-circle method to summarize the gospel. See whether you can tell the story together as a group (maybe even draw it on a piece of paper). Would one of you be willing to give it a try during our February 15 worship service? (If yes, connect with Pastor Cara!)
- (optional) Luke sandwiches the story of Jairus together with the healing of a woman in the crowd (v. 43-48). How does putting these two stories together enrich your reading of Jesus’ miracle for the 12-year-old girl?
- What does Jesus’ miracle for Jairus’ daughter reveal about the kingdom of God? (You might want to refer to other resurrection stories: Luke 7:11-17, John 11:1-45, Matthew 28:1-10. Or consult 1 Corinthians 15.)
- Does this story help you trust Jesus more? Why or why not?
- This story is about physical resurrection. Could it be helpful to apply this story to the need for spiritual or emotional resurrection? In what ways? Who do you know who needs resurrection? Do you?
- The OLD stories of Scripture remind us of the NEW ways God continues to work in our lives. Does Jesus bring resurrection still today? How have you seen Christ’s resurrecting power in your life or the life of your loved ones? (Consider the stories of Jesus’ current work in your life; the story of how you first came to trust and follow Jesus; the story of the “so what?” difference Jesus makes in your life.)
Sent:
- Next Sunday, Feb 15, there will be an opportunity during worship for us to share stories of Jesus’ work in our lives, based on the stories we’ve been studying—perhaps the radical hospitality, radical opposition, or radical change of God’s kingdom (Jan 4), healing of all kinds (Jan 11), miraculous provision (Jan 18), powerful presence in storms (Feb 1), or even resurrection (Feb 8). Which story would you be willing to share, for the strengthening of your own faith and the encouragement of our Faith family? (Contact Pastor Cara, please)
- Close in prayer, remembering those who need Jesus’ resurrecting power.
