Series: What the Spirit Says
Text: Revelation 2:8-11
Title: “Church, Anticipate Life after Death!”1. [If this is your first gathering this fall:] Opening: Share about your summer. Describe a moment / experience when you especially felt God’s Love or Presence (or felt loved by others. [If you’ve already met together this fall:] Have you ever won (or done well in) a race or a contest or another competition? What was the prize–the “victor’s crown” (Rev 2:11)? Share the story.
2. Read Jesus’ letter to Smyrna together, Rev 2:8-11. Describe the situation for the church in Smyrna.
3. What affliction, if any, have you faced for being a Christian? What stories do you know of affliction for the church worldwide? (What responsibility do Christians in Canada have, if any, for learning about the persecuted church globally? How might we do that?)
4. What is Jesus’ encouragement to the church in Smyrna? For what situations might you find this message encouraging to you personally?
5. “Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” Based on this letter, what is the Spirit saying to you? to Faith Church? How will you respond? Note: Anytime you reflect on what the Spirit is saying during this series, consider sharing your insights with others for communal encouragement, correction, accountability, and/or growth.
