Sermon Questions – May 10, 2026

Series: Songs for the Journey
Text: Ephesians 6:10-20
Title: I Need Thee Every Hour

Invited: When did you become “independent” from your parents, and how did that process of independence happen?

Loved: Read through the lyrics of “I Need Thee Every Hour” by Annie S Hawks and Robert Lowry. Do you know this hymn? How does it resonate or not resonate with you? What do you think of the idea of remaining always dependent on our heavenly Father?

Shaped:

  • Talk about the battle imagery of this passage. Is it helpful, or do you wish Paul had used a different metaphor?
  • (Optional) Paul’s description of the armour of God connects back to ideas and themes he has explored earlier in Ephesians. Look back through the rest of Ephesians for verses that remind us that each piece of armour is God’s gift to us in Jesus Christ.
  • The spiritual forces of evil can use any situation or emotion to pull us away from the love of God and the ways of God. Share examples of how the devil has tried to do this in your life.
  • Which elements of the armour of God are easiest for you to put on? Which is most challenging? How can these pieces of armour be useful in working against the devil’s flaming arrows?
  • Re-read v.18. What challenges you in this verse? What encourages you? What’s one step you can take to grow in your prayer life?

Sent: How do you need God’s help in the coming week? Perhaps you need a particular piece of God’s armour. Share, then pray for one another.
