2 Corinthians 8-9, “One Day: Giving towards God’s Vision”

Theme: God’s grace in financial giving draws us towards God’s vision of thriving.

  1. Opener: Listen to “One Day” by Matisyahu (find it on YouTube or Spotify, etc). What is the singer longing for? Or share a song (hymn, praise song, song by non-Christian artist, etc.) that expresses a longing you resonate with. (Thanks to James Bosma for the song inspiration!)
  2. Giving feels very personal and private, but Paul argues that it’s an essential part of the Christian life (2 Cor 8:7). What questions and struggles do you experience in your financial giving? Be clear when you’re simply expressing your questions/struggles, and when you’d appreciate advice or insight from the group. Note to group: Avoid offering unsolicited “solutions” for what others share – unless they invite you to do so, or you ask permission first.
  3. Read 2 Corinthians 9:6-11. What is Paul saying? Do you believe him? Why or why not?
  4. Faith’s vision is “Faith will be a community led by the Spirit where all are invited, all are loved, all are shaped, and all are sent to live like Jesus.” Share stories of how God is working at Faith to fulfill this vision – in your own life, and in the lives of others. What is your longing for Faith in the coming year?
