Sermon Questions – May 31, 2026

Series: Songs for the Journey
Text: John 13:34-35
Title: Let Us Be Known

Invited and loved: Share about a time when you felt deeply loved by someone.

Shaped:

  • Jesus says, “As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (v.34b). What are characteristics of Jesus’ love for us? Support with evidence from gospel stories, Jesus’ teachings, or other Scripture texts.
  • Jesus says that this is a “new” commandment, even though the people of God were very familiar with the command to “love your neighbour as yourself” (Leviticus 19:18; see Luke 10:25-28). What’s new or different about loving someone “as Jesus has loved you” rather than “as yourself”?
  • Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 (or the whole chapter!). Why is loving like Jesus such an important marker for Jesus’ followers?
  • Can a non-Christian love like Jesus loved? Why or why not? Share examples if you can. If yes, how is this possible?
  • Reflect on today’s Service Worship experience or another recent experience of serving others. What insight did this experience give you about loving others in the way of Jesus?
  • What’s challenging for you about loving people as Jesus loves you? What might you do to grow in your ability to love like Jesus?

Sent: Who is God calling you to love “as Jesus has loved you” this week? Share together. Then close in prayer, giving glory to God for Jesus’ love, and asking for the ability to love well this week.
